Therapy Provision
The school works in close partnership with therapeutic colleagues from local NHS services to provide speech & language therapy, occupational therapy or physiotherapy, where this has been indicated on an Education, Health and Care Plan.
The school has specialist accommodation for visiting professionals that enables all multi-disciplinary colleagues to work effectively together.
Therapists also work alongside teaching colleagues in the classroom, integrating therapeutic activities into the daily learning routines of the school to ensure effective transdisciplinary work.
Occupation Therapy

The Windmill School co-partner with Peoples OT. Dr Teresa Joyce is our link OT. Occupational Therapy helps children participate fully in school life, including activities related to learning, self-care, and leisure. This support is provided by working alongside educators to adapt the environment, modify tasks, and build students’ skills.
Starting in September 2025, both universal (whole-class) and targeted (small-group) Occupational Therapy will be included as part of the school’s standard provision. If a child is identified as potentially benefiting from a period of specialist one-to-one support, parents will be contacted and asked to provide consent in advance.
Dr Teresa Joyce is part of The Windmill School team as the Occupational Therapist from PEOPLES Occupational Therapy. She will work closely with staff and students to deliver this support as part of our inclusive approach to learning and development.
All our pupils are screened on entry to the school to obtain a sensory profile so we can quickly implement some helpful supports to enable purposeful access to activities and functional tasks.
Speech and Language Therapy
Most provision for Speech and Language Therapy ( SALT) is provided by our colleagues at the Barnet Integrated Therapies team at Whittington NHS Health Trust. Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist Claire Turner oversees all Universal SALT provision and case work for direct programs documented on EHCPs.
